Lakewood to the Hamptons

The Hamptons, without the LIE

Nothing in the Northeast is quite like the East End on a summer Friday. The Long Island Expressway and Route 27 turn a hundred-mile trip into an afternoon. From New Jersey, that starts only after you have crossed onto Long Island in the first place.

2½ to 4+ hrs

Driving

The LIE and Route 27. On a summer Friday, a parking lot with a view.

By air it is about forty minutes. Up out of Lakewood, along the coast and across the bays, no bridges and no merges, and down into East Hampton Town Airport (JPX), the field longtime visitors still call HTO. It is minutes from the villages. Headed farther out? Montauk (MTP) works too, ten minutes from the lighthouse.
