Driving
The LIE and Route 27. On a summer Friday, a parking lot with a view.
By air it is about forty minutes. Up out of Lakewood, along the coast and across the bays, no bridges and no merges, and down into East Hampton Town Airport (JPX), the field longtime visitors still call HTO. It is minutes from the villages. Headed farther out? Montauk (MTP) works too, ten minutes from the lighthouse.
Worth knowing before you book
- This is the day-trip route. At around forty minutes each way, dinner in East Hampton on a Tuesday is an easy plan. It is also the route where flying beats driving even in January.
- Summer Fridays sell out first. If your weekends are predictable, a standing booking beats a scramble.
- Travel light. Two or three people with soft bags is the comfortable load. Need a car at the other end? Tell us and we will line one up.
